About the Play
THE INVITATION tells the story of the aftershocks of trauma that seep through families generation after generation. It is a familiar story that can be related to through iterations of various family traumas experienced consciously (and not consciously) throughout countless cultures.
In this story we follow a daughter’s desperate attempt to understand and be understood by her mother, and we follow a mother’s attempt to give her daughter the safety and stability that she lost as a teenager. This is a play about two people reaching for one another, and trying their best to connect…but always seeming to reach in different directions, or to speak in different languages.
An unlikely invitation is the link which creates common ground between this British daughter and her German mother.
